The best thing about cleaning out the car right now is that it will stay clean much longer than usual… you know, since none of us are going anywhere. Even those of us who are considered “essential workers” are driving much less than normal.
You can check out the video below to see how bad my car was and what I found in there…
Steps to cleaning the car:
Take out all the stuff that doesn’t belong.
Put it where it goes… but don’t get distracted by cleaning that area.
Throw away all the trash.
Take out the carpets.
Vacuum the car seats, floors, carpets, and trunk area.
Put the carpets back in.
Put anything else back that goes in.
In my case it was the stuff for the Peoria Music Live Little Free Pantry
Emergency supplies, a trash can, pens, back-up eyeliner… all things you may want to keep in the car.
One way to extend how long the car stays clean is to tell everyone that anything they take into the car, they have to carry back out. The trick to that is that you also have to remember to apply that rule to yourself, without excuses.
Now, I’m realistic… if you have kids, you will get tired of reminding them and it will only last so long. But, if you can keep it up for a week, your car stays cleaner a week longer than it would have otherwise. (And when you stop reminding them and they forget… it can be their turn to clean out the car!)
