Cleaning & Sanitizing to keep your employees and clients safe!
What are you doing to keep everyone safe?
While we always trained our employees to avoid cross contamination and to follow safety protocols and procedures, it doesn’t hurt to get everything in writing and remind all of the employees while implementing the new rules. Here is the info we sent to them.
The overall spirit of the new requirements is this... Even if you do not believe you have it, act as if you do have it. It's the best way to keep people around you safe in case you turn out to be asymptomatic.
MASKS
We will continue to ask clients to be in a different room or not at home while you are working. However, these are the situations in which you should wear a mask:
The client asks you to.
Someone in the home is high-risk (Elderly or has underlying conditions.)
You aren't able to maintain social distance of 6ft from everyone at the home.
You have allergies that are causing you to cough or sneeze.
You are cleaning a business.
You can also ask the client when you get there, would you prefer that I wear a mask? If they say no, you don't need to wear one.
If you need to wear a mask: I have cloth masks for each of you. They have a filter pocket in them and I have some filters for you as well. You are also welcome to use your own mask as long as it filters both directions.
N95 masks are not appropriate for what we are doing. These only filter air coming in, not air going out.
GLOVES
Gloves are, in general, often misworn. We aren't going to wear them for the sake of looking like we are safe. Often, it's safer not to wear gloves at all. These are the circumstances in which you will wear gloves:
The client asks you to.
You are cleaning a business.
If you are wearing gloves to clean businesses, you will put on a new pair, and take them off and dispose of them at each business. If you are cleaning the bathroom or another area prone to cross contamination, change to a new pair of gloves immediately after cleaning that.
Always wash and/sanitize your hands BEFORE and AFTER wearing gloves.
SANITIZING WIPES
These have been provided for you to use. If you run out or are running low, please let me know ASAP. When you enter a house, you should use a sanitizing wipe to clean the door handles and open the door on your way in and throw it away when you are done.
While cleaning, use the client's cleaning supplies for most cleaning, but use another sanitizing wipe as you finish up/leave the home, to wipe light switches, banisters, and door handles on the way out.
HAND WASHING
Washing your hands with warm soapy water for 20-30 seconds is always better than using sanitizer. However, sanitizer will work as a substitute when necessary.
When you should wash and/or sanitize your hands:
When you enter a home
After cleaning a bathroom
After touching garbage or a garbage can
If you ever find yourself cleaning up after an animal (I tell clients we don't do that, but I know you sometimes choose to anyway.)
Before you leave the home (or sanitize in your car if washing is not an option for some reason)
Any other time you feel it’s necessary
If you have used sanitizer, remember it is helpful, but not the best measure to prevent the spread of bacteria & viruses. The next chance you get, wash your hands.
ILLNESS
Communication is key.
If you are sick, please let us know right away so we can reschedule you. If you stay home from work with any flu-like symptoms, you will need to go get at COVID-19 test done at one of the drive-through testing sites.
If someone in your home tests positive for COVID-19, please let us know immediately so we can decide on the right course of action for your circumstance.
If you know you have allergies or something non-communicable, letting the client know when you arrive will help alleviate concern on their part. However, you should wear a mask while cleaning as a precaution.
Even if you think some of these measures are overkill, please do them anyway. These standards are about safety, but even more so at this time, about the client feeling safe, above all else.
Did you say you had some other great news?
Yes! Thanks for asking. While others have had some difficulty with the program, the CARES ACT came through for Hire A Housewife! We were able to obtain a PPP Loan from the SBA enabling our employees the opportunity to receive paychecks for the next 8 weeks! Taking care of our employees is very important to us and it’s exciting to have a way to do that in uncertain times!
We certainly hope things are a little closer to normal by then. But in the mean time, you can help us by letting people know we are open for business and equipped to help more people than ever!
